It's another really simple one and it's pretty fun to decorate your own butterfly. So, without further ado, here's the butterfly tutorial!
You'll need:
- Butterfly pattern
- Felt
- Elastic scraps
- Buttons, beads, scrap fabric, etc. to decorate with
- Stiff interfacing (Optional. See step 3.)
- Scissors
- Hot glue
- Needle and thread (Optional for your buttons, or you can hot glue them.)
Step 1:
Use the butterfly pattern to cut your butterfly's main body out of felt.
Step 2:
Use coordinating felts, fabrics, buttons, beads or whatever you like to decorate your butterfly's body. When you like the way it looks, hot glue or sew down the pieces.
Step 3:
My butterfly was a little floppy from the weight after I got everything all glued down, so I added stiff interfacing to the back. If yours isn't floppy you can skip this step. :)
Floppy from the weight of hot glue and buttons. |
Adding fusible interfacing to the back of the project helped it to lay flat. |
Measure and cut two pieces of elastic by wrapping your elastic around your dog's collar. You'll want the elastic to overlap (so you can glue it down in a minute). My pieces were about 1 1/4 inch each for a 1/2 inch collar.
Step 5:
Use a hot glue gun to hot glue your lengths of elastic into loops. Then, hot glue the elastic loops to the center of each wing on the back of your butterfly like this:
Step 6:
Slide the butterfly over your dog's collar and enjoy!
