Read on after the break for the tutorial.
Here's what you need:
- Two or more different patterns of scrap fabric
- Scissors
- Pins
- Needle
- Thread
- Buttons
- Small circular object for tracing
- Pencil or fabric marker
- hot glue gun (optional)
- Headband or hair clip (optional)
We'll start with the center of this flower and work our way outward. Take your small circular object and trace a circle onto the back of one of your pieces of scrap fabric. Remember, this will be the smallest circle in your flower, so make sure you've chosen a small enough object to work your way out.
Step 2:
Using your scissors, cut a wavy line around the circle you traced. The object of the game here is to not cut on the dotted line. Lol. Weaving in and out of the line in waves makes for a more natural, interesting-looking flower.
Step 3:
Pin the wavy circle you just cut out to your second piece of fabric. Use it as a guide to cut a slightly larger wavy circle. Repeat this process alternating fabrics until you achieve a flower the size you desire.
Step 4:
To finish your flower, take your needle and thread and attach a button to the center of all your wavy fabric circles. If you want more reinforcement than just the button in the center provides, feel free to hot glue underneath each of the layers of fabric.
Step 5 (optional):
To make your scrap fabric flower into a hair piece, simply hot glue it to a head band or hair clip.
Ta-da! You're finished.
Don't be afraid to try mixing up more than two different kinds of scrap fabric. What makes this project so great is that it takes hardly any supplies. So use whatever scraps you've got! :)
Happy crafting!

Update your "about me"--you're no longer a student but a GRADUATE, which is way more awesome. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteActually, I am still a student. I walked with my friends but I don't actually have my degree until August 6. I have to take 2 exit courses this summer.
